Isern Serra designs the modeling agency as a “landscape” for taking photos

Pale walls, sculptural furnishings and sunken plant features provide a stunning backdrop for the photoshoots taking place inside this Barcelona modeling agency created by Spanish studio Isern Serra.

The Blow Models office occupies the first floor of a 1920s building and its adjacent warehouse in the Sant Martí neighborhood of Barcelona.

Isern Serra designed its compartmentalized interior as “a landscape where models can take pictures.”

The studio began by knocking through the building’s false ceiling and most of the partition walls to make the interior appear more open and airy.

A tall rectangular window was carved from the ceiling to allow more natural lighting and all surfaces were painted a pale buttermilk shade.

As the building does not rest on a basement or car park, the studio took the opportunity to dig into the foundations of the site.

In the heart of the office, the floor is now divided by three holes. Two of them were transformed into cushioned conversation pits, while the third overflows with leafy tropical plants.

“Light and vegetation become the center from which the project is structured,” explained the studio. “[The] The unusual and beautiful background is meant to encourage photography.”

Steel benches are placed around another concrete table

Two large concrete tables were placed on either side of the office – one functions as a communal desk while the other can be used for general staff meetings, surrounded by steel stools.

Steel was also used to create a sculptural prep counter in the office kitchen.

The only rooms that are closed are those used for meetings or by the accounting department.

Simple white curtains were placed around their perimeter so that they too could serve as spaces to photograph the models if needed.

Formal meeting rooms are closed off from the rest of the floor plan

To maintain the open plan of the office, toilets were placed near the stairs of the building. Here, a wide picture window overlooks the street, bisected by a thick concrete sink.

There is also a floor-to-ceiling mirror where visiting models can apply their make-up.

This is not the only workspace that Isern Serra has created in Barcelona. Earlier this year, the studio designed a soothing, minimalist office for eyewear brand Gigi.

In 2023 the studio also created an office for digital artist Andres Reisinger, finishing its interior with quartz and stainless steel details.
