Marvel Studios appears to have fixed a key controversial element of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man costume from There is no way home.
While his new outfit quickly received intense love, in 2022 concept artist Rob Burnett revealed how the suit was supposed to feature a golden spider logo on the chest – something that went unnoticed in the final film. For many fans who had considered the suit to be the best yet, this reveal was controversial, as it didn’t match the classic look that everyone wanted.
Last year Spider-Man 2 the video game seemingly confirmed this further with its in-game version of the suit bearing a clear-as-day golden spider logo.
Marvel fixes controversial element of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man costume
Thanks to the new official photos of her future bloggers Spider-Man: No Way Home The new Red And Blue Suit release, Hot Toys revealed a massive change made to Tom Holland’s outfit that fixes a key controversial detail in the suit.
Taking a closer look at Spidey’s chest, fans will notice that the logo is black—and not the gold that everyone was led to believe it was.
Previously, artist Rob Brunette’s concept clearly showed the logo as gold instead of black.
However, with these new images, there is no doubt that the logo is black.
The Hot Toys figure also comes with an incredibly detailed and realistic head sculpt of star Tom Holland.
Also included in the deluxe version of the figure is a rooftop diorama of the building, complete with snow to set the scene perfectly.
One of the photos shows an example of how the logo could have previously been mistaken for gold. In specific lighting, it can sometimes make the black logo look like shiny gold.
What’s with the changes in the gold and black logos?
So where do all these Spider-Man costume discrepancies come from?
Part of it could be how marketing was potentially working off of outdated designs. For example, skin from Spider-Man 2 could have been based on previous renderings of the iconic red-and-blue suit, while for this new Hot Toy, the company was able to make adjustments to fit the intended final look.
While the gold symbol was nice in that it harkened back to MCU Spider-Man’s connection to Iron Man, for many, the design choice didn’t quite fit the idea of an essential outfit for the hero. The black logo just fits perfectly and feels natural, while the gold logo stuck out like a sore thumb.
With this new confirmation, some fans will be relieved to know that the detail has been ironed out.
Whatever the case, hopefully, when Spider-Man 4 comes around, fans can see the suit in action and in full detail. Although everyone’s favorite wall-slider is bound to get another new costume at some point, so there’s no telling for how long There is no way homeThe red and blue suit will last.
Spider-Man: No Way Home now airing on FX.
